Additionally, they must demonstrate the qualities of character, leadership, and service in the classroom and through extracurricular involvement. We are excited for Michael to join the district’s administrative team and we look forward to working with him at Kent Elementary School. We also thank our interim principal, Anthony DiCarlo, for his dedicated guidance in the role over the last several weeks. The last time we reviewed a strategic plan for the district was prior to the pandemic and so much has changed in two years! We are excited to embark on this journey over the next several months with the goal of a unified plan for our district’s future.

Both had little time to campaign after announcing their candidacies six days ago and facing the primary election on Tuesday. Four qualified candidates are vying for the open seat in the Democratic primary, the Virginia Democratic Party and 4th Congressional District Committee announced last week. Both parties in Virginia must pay for and host their own primaries, in contrast to a state-run primary held in a typical November election cycle. The process is called a “firehouse primary” or an unassembled caucus because voters and candidates are engaged as quickly as possible. Tomorrow AT 3PM the event will close and no more tickets will be given to any students for any reasons.
He will be with us at Carmel High School through the end of the school year. It may not be a well-known fact that dyslexia can affect up to 20 percent of a student population. It can, and that presents a significant number of students who struggle with dyslexia-related challenges, such as learning to read or interpret words, letters, and other symbols, to name a few. Please take student registration documentation to the students home school for registration during school/office hours. Parents can apply to have their students attend a school outside of their neighborhood boundaries. Our district proudly uses Raptor Technologies for our integrated school safety software. On Saturday, Republicans elected Leon Benjamin Sr. as their nominee for the special election. Last week, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin required both Republicans and Democrats to file their candidates by Dec. 23 in order to prepare for the special election, which will be held on Feb. 21.
Through a partnership of students, parents, staff and community, students are given the opportunity to reach their full potential as lifelong learners and contributing members of society. Thank you to our district Parent-Teacher Organization groups for hosting so many wonderful activities in the past month including the Color-A-Thon at the elementary schools, Halloween parties and Trunk-or-Treats, book fairs, spirit days and more. Seeing so many of our students and families gathering in new and fun ways has been amazing. Our decision to close school due to weather is based solely on the safety of our students and staff. We utilize data from multiple sources such as weather reports, local and state road conditions as well as contact with area school superintendents when closing school.

We look forward to recognizing our fall athletes at the event with special performances to follow. Regrettably, we will be unable to host the fireworks display as previously planned. While much planning was done by the District and the Carmel Rams Booster Club to secure a vendor to provide celebratory fireworks, unfortunately, insurance coverage and liability issues are preventing the display from happening. While the outcome is not what we wanted, the Homecoming celebration and fun will continue with the planned bonfire and athletic recognitions. As we break for the holiday, I extend my warmest wishes for happy and safe celebrations with family and friends.
While we are still in the height of the fall season, the winter season and possibility of inclement weather are not far off. The safety of our students and staff is always most important when making the difficult decision to delay, close or dismiss early due to weather conditions. For the last several months, our district has been fortunate to have Dr. Foster serving as our interim Assistant Superintendent for Instruction while the position remained vacant. The Thanksgiving season is a time to gather, enjoy the company of our loved ones, and pause to reflect on all that we are grateful for in our lives. As we enter the holiday break for Thanksgiving, I send each of you my heartfelt thanks for all that you do for our district and its students. We hope that you will be interested in joining one of the focus groups to provide valuable feedback for our strategic planning process.
A special election to replace the seat of the late Rep. Donald McEachin in Virginia’s 4th Congressional District has Democrats scrambling as they host a rushed primary on Tuesday. The Burlington Township School District will develop the intellectual, creative and social potential of each child through an active partnership with all members of the community. Permission slips have already been sent out so make sure you have your parents fill it out and send it in. This December, we’re highlighting the importance of science to students who have big hopes for their future.
The Burlington Township School District is committed to making our website accessible for students, staff, and the community. Recently, Carmel High School’s library offered campfire story sessions for students during free periods or lunch periods and to say it was a hit is an understatement. During the recent spooky season, students were invited to head to the library during their free periods or lunch periods for several storytelling events. With plenty of comfortable seating, and optional stuffed animals for support, students settled in around a faux campfire in the library’s lab for the readings.
Over the last several weeks, Grade 8 World Language students at George Fischer Middle School had the opportunity to take the language skills and cultural knowledge they have learned in the classroom and apply it to the world outside the walls of the school. To our students, especially the Class of 2022, congratulations on an amazing year full of wonderful memories, growth, accomplishments and, of course, fun. Last night, we had the privilege of graduating 384 Carmel High School seniors who are more than ready to accomplish great things in their next chapter. We wish our seniors much success and happiness in the years to come and remind them to stay in touch! To all our students returning to our schools in the fall, we look forward to adding more wonderful memories with you in your next chapter with us.
The tradition continued for third-grade students at Matthew Paterson Elementary School this year with the annual Thanksgiving Celebration. For more than 45 years, third-grade students and teachers have been gathering for a fun-filled day of seasonal activities, academic lessons, crafts, food and more – and this year was no different. Throughout November, for Native American Heritage Month, several elementary and middle school classes had the opportunity to learn more about the traditions and way of life of the native people who inhabited, and still live in, our local areas. Idaho Falls School District 91 is committed to providing a workplace and educational environment, as well as other benefits, programs, and activities, which are free from sex and gender-based harassment, discrimination, and retaliation. Idaho Falls School District does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age in its programs and activities and provides equal access to all individuals. Thank you to all the parents, patrons and staff who responded to the Board of Trustees' call for ideas on how to address overcrowding and safety issues in our schools after the failure of the recent bond effort.
